Today, Friday March 10, 2023 was a big day for me. It was my first time trying Bing Chat.
The first thing I realized in attempting to try this chat bot was that I didn't have the Microsoft Edge browser on any of my personal devices.
Thankfully, within a few minutes I figured out how to download Microsoft Edge and set up a new Microsoft account on my iPhone.
Once I had access to Bing Chat, I wanted to see what would happen if I asked both Bing Chat and ChatGPT the same question.
"Hi.. I would love an expert non biased summary about how Bing chat and ChatGPT are similar and what differentiates them."
Bing Chat Answer
"Hello, this is Bing. I'm happy to provide you with a summary of how Bing Chat and ChatGPT are similar and what differentiates them. (Smiley face emoji)
Here is a summary:
Bing Chat and ChatGPT are both natural language processing tools that use artificial intelligence to generate text and interact with users. They are both based John large language models from the GPT family developed by OpenAI.
Bing Chat is a product of Microsoft that integrates with the Edge Browser and Sype. It can answer questions from the web, create written content, gather trip planning ideas, and more - all generated by AI. Bing Chat uses a model called GPT-3.5 which finished training in early 2022.
ChatGPT is a research project by OpenAI that was launched in November 2022. It can interact in a conversational way and follow up on questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests. ChatGPT uses reinforcement learning from human feedback to fine-tune its model.
I hope this summary helps you understand the similarities between Bing Chat and ChatGPT. Smiley face emoji)"
ChatGPT Answer
"Sure, I'd be happy to provide a non-biased summary of the similarities and differences between Bing Chat and ChatGPT.
Similarities:
Bing Chat and ChatGPT are both AI chatbots that allow users to have natural language conversations with them.
Both chatbots use text input and output to communicate with users.
Both chatbots can be used for a wide range of applications, such as customer service, language translation, and personal assistance.
Both chatbots are designed to make it easier for users to interact with them in a conversational manner.
Differences:
Bing Chat primarily uses a rule-based system to generate responses, whereas ChatGPT uses a deep learning model based on artificial neural networks.
Bing Chat is pre-programmed with specific responses to common user queries, while ChatGPT generates responses based on its understanding of natural language patterns and context.
ChatGPT is capable of generating more varied and contextually appropriate responses compared to Bing Chat, as it is able to learn from the vast amount of text data available on the internet.
Bing Chat is limited to the topics it has been specifically programmed to address, while ChatGPT can generate responses to a wider range of topics.
Overall, while Bing Chat and ChatGPT share some similarities in terms of their chatbot functionality, the underlying technologies and methods they use to generate responses are quite different, resulting in different strengths and limitations for each chatbot."
As a non-tech person, here are the differences I noticed.
Bing Chat had emojis and reference links which ChatGPT did not.
However ChatGPT scored points with me for easier access with its availability in Safari and Chrome.
Finally, since it's Friday Fun Day, I wanted to see how the chatbots measured up for humor.
Please help me write jokes about Bing chat for people who can't sleep. Something you could put on a T-shirt. Give your 5 best. They don't have to be G-rated

In my humble opinion Bing was the winner in this particular event! It might be time to start printing t-shirts.
In all seriousness, I would be curious if you've tried either Bing chat or ChatGPT, what you asked the chatbot and what your experience was like.
